There was this bat in my house today me & my bro did....?

well today i was using my computer and all the sudden i see a shawdow and i see it flying and i run into another room i open the door slightly and thought it was a bird. i stayed in my room for maybe 30 minutes and then went back out to use my computer. my bro came home i said theres a bird in the house i think it went upstairs we joked about it and then he went up to sleep and then he calles me he saied to turn on the light and he said thats a bat not a bird i freaked out he said go get the flashlight and come up, i hesititaed to come up and when i did i me and my bro put blankets on our bodys so we can turn the light on in the room it was in and i screamed soo loud it took us 1 hour of throwing things at it and scereaming to scare it out and finally we smacked it out with a broom i was wondering what bats can do? are they fatal if they bite me? this is the 1st time ive seen a bat in my house i dont want to go through this again its been hell lol how can i prevent it from coming back?
