Was Abraham Lincoln a far left president?

I don't know about "far-left" but at the time of Lincoln the new Republican party was the liberal party while the Democrats were more conservative. Republicans then were about expanding the role of the federal government while the Democrats believed in states rights. Things have totally flipped since then.
