A question about American English ... ?

Because Noah Webster thought he could "improve" spelling by completely ignoring how words had developed - so "color" instread of "colour", etc. "Donut" comes from adverising slang. And "-ize" ot "-ization" comes froma Greek suffix - in many cases current English spelling is inaccurate.
